JANE SAYS

Pick of the week! January 14 2015

Once again we can thank the gods of Pinerest for this treat. Some of our resolutions are related to food so we searched the interwebs for yummy and healthier alternatives.

Many goals made at the new year include vows to eat healthier. We like this recipe of energy bites for a healthier alternative for when cravings strike.

Here's the recipe for healthier, no-bake energy bites

1/2 cup chocolate chips (coco powder and stevia can be used for a low-cal substitution)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup oatmeal, dry

1/2 cup peanut butter (you can used pb2 as a low cal substitution)

1/4 cup honey

1 tbsp chia seeds

1/2 cup ground flax seed

Mix together all ingredients and enjoy

What are your goals for 2015?

Pick of the week! {dessert} January 14 2015

Chocolate is abundant in an office full of creative women. We love to discuss new chocolates or new (guilt-free) ways of eating it! Pinterest is the holy grail of finding easy and delicious new recipes. These Truffles are to die for!

Easy Chocolate Truffles  (Don't worry, we won't tell)

  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • Five strips 1-inch-wide orange peel, pith removed
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup sifted cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped assorted nuts, such as walnuts, pecans, and pistachios

  • In a small saucepan, whisk together cream and cardamom. Add orange peel; bring just to a boil. Remove from heat; let stand 15 minutes. Line a baking pan with parchment; set it and another pan aside.
  •  Return cream mixture to heat; bring to a boil. Place chocolate in a heat-proof bowl. Remove cream mixture from heat. Pour through a sieve set over chocolate; discard solids. Stir until melted and smooth

  •  Pour chocolate mixture onto the unlined baking pan, and spread in an even layer with an offset spatula. Transfer baking pan to freezer; chill chocolate until hardened but malleable, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Pour chocolate mixture onto the unlined baking pan, and spread in an even layer with an offset spatula. Transfer baking pan to freezer; chill chocolate until hardened but malleable, 15 to 20 minutes.  Using a tablespoon, scrape enough chocolate from pan to form a roughly shaped 1-inch ball, being careful not to press too hard against baking pan. Repeat. Transfer balls to the parchment-lined pan; chill truffles in the refrigerator 10 minutes.
  •  Place the confectioners' sugar, the cocoa powder, and the chopped nuts in three separate bowls. Roll the truffles in desired coatings.

Pick of the week! August 21 2014

As school begins and we say good bye to summer, it's time to start thinking about new shoes! Our ballet flats are amazing and so comfortable! My personal favorites are the Avalons because of the mermaid scales.
Avalon is named after the only little town on Catalina Island--just off the coast of Long Beach in Southern California. It takes an hour to get there by boat with dolphins leaping in the waves along the way. Once you are there, no cars just golf carts buzzing around this riviera-like town. The water is deep clear blue - so clear you can picture mermaids dancing on the golden sand bottom.
These shoes go from work to play instantly. The blush color dresses up any outfit and adds a little shimmer while still looking professional. Pair them with a pair of skinny jeans and a white blouse or a sun dress!
I recently wore these on a work trip to Miami where I stood on my feet for 12 hours! It was craziness- but my feet did not need an ice bath after!

Pick of the Week August 07 2014

Welcome to our new blog series! Each week we will pick one of our favorite to tell you about!

The Malibu Jane Calistoga flip flop has the most comfortable foot bed ever and makes your feet feel like you’re walking on air. The rose gold details add a touch glam. Rose gold is currently my favorite metal and I have been buying several pieces with rose gold details. It dresses up any outfit just enough to make me feel put-together without having to spend hours getting ready. I have worn my Calistoga’s almost non-stop since I got them. I have quite a high standard for flip flop “comfy-ness” and these babies knocked it out of the park! Thankfully Summertime in California is nearly year-round so I have lots of time to spend with my new favorite shoes.
